Casa Sophia at Alma Del Rio • Eco Comfort on the Water

Positive: We loved our stay at Alma Del Rio! Casa Sophia was so tranquil and we loved watching birds or hearing howler monkeys from the couch. The unit was beautifully decorated and the shower was incredible!! We also loved the riverside setting and the paddle boards that were available for guests’ use. Hadas, her family, and the entire team were all wonderful. Negative: We only wish we had rented a car as it’s about 10 minutes outside San Ignacio, but we were able to call taxis! And the peaceful riverside setting is so much better than being in town.

Beautiful place in the jungle for a unique, remote get away. Positive: The property is beautiful and offers amenities such as cooking classes and massage that I wish we could have taken advantage of but we were not there long enough. We loved waking up and drinking coffee in the living room, bird watching and listening to the jungle. It was really cool. Hosts also coordinated a tour for us to Mayan ruins and cave tubing and that was also an amazing day with a great guide. We were sad to leave but if i return I would book this again in a heartbeat. Negative: King beds are always a plus when people share but we made the US Queen work due to such a quaint property.

Positive: I had a great stay here and was really happy with the place. It’s beautiful, and the views from the second floor were especially nice. I also loved watching all the bird activity around the property. The hosts were easy to communicate with and kept everything smooth.

We had a fabulous stay at Casa Sophia at Alma del Rio. The house is even more beautiful than the photos show. The thoughtful design, attention to detail, and execution are all very impressive. I look forward to seeing the additional lodgings completed. We especially enjoyed the view over the forest and the rainwater shower. Birding from the upper floor was fantastic. We called it our treehouse. Hadas and staff made us feel welcome and responded quickly to questions.
